Executive Summary: The goals of this project were enhanced provider / patient education, increased patient safety and improved disease management and prevention. The Boston Medical Center recruited physicians from solo and group practices in New England to participate in web-based modules, receive technical support to implement new office systems, complete assignments to practice new counseling techniques with patients, and share their experiences with peers via a web-based discussion board. This project developed the following online continuing education modules designed for primary care physicians: treatment of diabetes, use of insulin in type 2 diabetes, preventive cardiology, congestive heart failure, colon cancer prevention, prevention of medical errors,  a geriatric module on advanced directives and ten individual modules on depression.
