Ohio Physicians Well-Being Personal Assessment Program
Ohio State Medical Association Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA) which is Ohio’s state medical society. Established in 1846, the OSMA is the is the first and largest physician-led organization in Ohio and is the leading voice of physicians, residents and medical students in Ohio. It is dedicated to empowering physicians, residents and medical students to advocate on behalf of their patients, communities, and profession. OSMA proactively and persistently advocates for effective healthcare policy outcomes, provides professional development opportunities for physicians, and promotes useful resources that advance patient care and the medical profession.
Over the last few years, OSMA has focused on leadership and physician well-being in partnership with health systems, at our annual meeting, in small local gatherings and finally through a virtual program during the pandemic featuring national speakers and personal reflection. However, the OSMA Well-Being Committee is now planning the development of an individualized well-being assessment and referral tool. The objective is to make this tool available to all Ohio physicians and other licensed healthcare personnel, through a combination of traditional communication platforms and in-person events where we help foster well-being ambassadors/leaders to help spread the importance of individual physicians focus on personal well-being.
Additionally, OSMA seeks to focus on the youngest physicians by partnering with residency programs to engage with residents and fellows and ensure they are aware of the tool. This will empower Ohio’s medical residents to be leaders and ambassadors regarding their own personal well-being that that of their colleagues, both in training and beyond.
