Grant Details
Project to develop physician, employer and insurer partnerships which collectively work to evolve health services through the study of healthcare cost variation in relation to appropriate use criteria and cost-sensitive best practice care
Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation is creating the Center for Medical Practice Research. Phase one of the project, Discovery, established the infrastructure and developed the value statements that drive healthcare savings, along with evaluation teams to discuss best practice cost variation. During this phase, teams comprised of specialty care physicians, primary care physicians, employers, insurers and consumers performed data analysis in the areas of orthopedics, cardiology, gastroenterology and behavioral health. The teams looked at cost variation and identified opportunities for improvement. The grantee developed a business plan which enabled it to attract committed partners and investors. The Center completed the Analytical Workbench template used for analyzing data. The Center developed specialty teams that met monthly to review data, which was then measured against other teams.
