Kentucky Physician Leadership Initiative
The Kentucky Physician Leadership Initiative (KPLI) will provide education and tools necessary for physicians to be leaders in both the transition of health care delivery and the improvement of public health. The KPLI will consist of a Physician Leadership Academy in 2015 focusing on government compare websites, provider reimbursement, improvement of physician and hospital ratings, patient communication and satisfaction, and Community Health Needs Assessments. Additionally, two programs will be offered to select hospitals and their medical staffs tailored to their communities, with individual physicians leading the programs and a local public health initiative.
As the healthcare system transitions to one of greater transparency, KFMC has identified a need for physicians to be educated on how this new degree of transparency could change the way they and the hospitals in which they practice are viewed by the public and reimbursed by the government. The push for greater transparency has also created opportunities for physicians to lead initiatives that address specific population health issues, which, in Kentucky, is needed desperately. The KPLI will provide the education and tools necessary for physicians to be leaders in both the transition of the health care delivery system and the improvement of public health at the local level.
