The Physicians Foundation Announces Call for Fellowship Applicants
New and early-career physicians passionate about drivers of health encouraged to apply
BOSTON, January 28, 2025–Today, The Physicians Foundation announced the opening of applications for its esteemed Fellowship Program. This program is designed for new and early-career physicians to advance their leadership skills and focus on addressing drivers of health (DOH) –or the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age. This unique opportunity is open to new and early-career physicians who demonstrate experience or interest in DOH, physician leadership, health policy, health equity, and care delivery innovation.
Drivers of health, such as housing stability and food insecurity, significantly influence a person’s overall health and healthcare costs in America. The Foundation’s recent survey found that while nearly all physicians agree that their patients’ health outcomes are affected by DOH, many physicians face challenges in addressing them. The Fellowship Program aims to equip physicians with the tools and knowledge necessary to address these critical factors. The Fellow will develop and implement a project that supports physicians in their understanding of DOH and how it can be integrated into medical practices
“As we look to the future of healthcare, it is imperative that we empower the next generation of physicians to step into leadership roles,” said Gary Price, MD, president of The Physicians Foundation.“By fostering their development through our Fellowship Program, we are not only investing in their potential but also ensuring that they are equipped to navigate and shape the evolving landscape of medicine. Our commitment is to support these emerging physician leaders as they champion high-quality, patient-centered care and drive meaningful change in the healthcare system.”
Program Benefits
Key benefits of the Fellowship Program include:
- Stipend and Covered Expenses: The Fellow will receive a 12-month stipend of $24,000 as well as reimbursement for program-related travel and lodging expenses.

“The Physicians Foundation’s Fellowship Program was an incredible experience that allowed me to grow as a leader and delve deeply into critical issues that impact health,” said Deborah Rose, MD, The Physicians Foundation’s 2024 Fellow. “This opportunity not only broadened my understanding of DOH but also empowered me to make a tangible difference in addressing these factors and paving the way for more equitable and effective healthcare solutions. I encourage physicians who are interested in addressing DOH, health equity, and leadership to take advantage of this opportunity.”
