Women’s Wellness through Equity and Leadership (WEL)
Women’s Wellness through Equity and Leadership (WEL) will recruit a cohort of early- to mid-career female physicians and health care leaders to provide networking and education around critical leadership skills, develop principles regarding healthy work environments for female physicians, and contribute to the development of a consortium of six health care organizations to create infrastructure for addressing these issues. This program will foster the development of the next wave of female physician leaders to build a more equitable work experience.
Specifically, AAP will form a steering committee of physician/health care leaders to a) develop a training curriculum and leadership experience for a cohort of early- to mid-career female physicians and health care leaders, b) mentor cohort participants, and c) draft principles on equitable work environments. AAP will then recruit cohort participants who will a) participate in an 18-month curriculum including in-person and virtual meetings focused on leadership and equity and b) refine the principles drafted by the steering committee. To solidify collaboration between the consortium organizations, AAP will also facilitate development of a sustainable cross-society physician data collection plan.
