Initiative to improve patient safety in ambulatory care

The Baylor Research Institute aimed to improve patient safety by developing, evaluating and improving the effectiveness of an intervention program in ambulatory primary care practices. The Physicians Foundation supported the Baylor Research Institute in implementing its program in the practices of numerous physicians from Baylor’s physician practice organization, HealthTexas. Baylor Research Institute conducted a chart audit of all adult primary care practices in HealthTexas Provider Network to determine the factors that impact error rates. Since the completion of the grant, Baylor Research Institute has secured funding to support the project and assist with disseminating the method nationally.
