The Maryland Physician Leadership Institute – Certificate Program in Physician Leadership

The Center for a Healthy Maryland, an affiliate of Med Chi, The Maryland State Medical Society will expand the Maryland Physician Leadership Institute by creating a Certificate Program in Physician Leadership and offering the program both online and in diverse Maryland geographic areas. It is anticipated that this program will empower and encourage leadership – to equip physicians with critical information in the era of health reform, and help them understand why their leadership is critical to the healthcare delivery system, the future of Medicine, and ultimately, to the health of their patients. The Certificate program will also provide participants with hands-on sessions to enhance their interpersonal skills: to better foster teamwork, resolve conflict and build consensus; skills which are necessary in successful leaders but are not necessarily addressed in formal medical education.

Physicians completing the Maryland Physician Leadership Certificate program will be recognized at a meeting of the Med Chi House of Delegates and within their own component societies and may be tapped for leadership roles in organized medicine. They will have measurably improved knowledge and confidence to organize their colleagues and drive improvements in medicine, whether working in a large integrated delivery system, a hospital, a large multi-specialty physician group, or a small physician practice.
