Center for Medical Simulation
Initiative to use simulations to train physicians to communicate and process adverse medical events and medical errors
Executive Summary: The purpose of this project was to create an error disclosure program, disseminate training materials and lay groundwork for development of web-based training program. Thirty physicians participated in the simulated error disclosures and apology scenario during simulation courses. The conversations were videotaped and analyzed. The research and training activities derived from this study support implementation of national patient safety goals, including transparency in the disclosure and apology process.
