The Young Physician Leadership Program

The expansion of YLPC is to provide young physicians with a comprehensive skill set that will serve as foundation for leadership development in the healthcare arena and beyond. The curriculum will provide experiences and opportunities for physicians to develop an additional complementary skill-set of policy analysis and advocacy and leading organizational change in multicultural environments through organized medicine. An advisory committee will be created to review the current course content and types of independent learning projects covered over the past three years.

An advisory committee will be created to review the current course content and types of independent learning projects covered over the past three years. The advisory committee will have representation from internal medicine, multiple medical specialties, senior health policy physician/clinical faculty, health services researcher, and academic faculty to help guide the process. This includes structuring the program’s delivery and selecting faculty and physician mentors from Hartford County. The YLPC is well established, but it is important to customize the program to meet the needs of the practice sites and physician participants in its new location.

Participants will explore ways of advancing health policy by advocating change and pursuing practical application of theories of both medical care and medical payment policy. Finally, participants have opportunities to formulate their own ideas and concepts to improve the delivery and financing of healthcare in this country. As the same time, the program has a target purpose of increasing physician diversity in CSMS membership and leadership.
