The Labor and Delivery Civility Cooperative: A Systems-Based Approach to Workplace Incivility

The Icahn School of Medicine’s mission aims to advance science, medicine, and health care delivery for the benefit of humanity through a culture of excellence, innovation, and belonging. Guidance on civility and preventing incivility at their institution is currently lacking within the clinic setting, with most interventions being focused on asynchronous online learning modules that lack engagement and real-world connection. This project aims to provide tools to achieve “a culture of excellence” and “belonging” to their institution.

The core mission of their project is to develop a multispecialty Labor and Delivery Civility Cooperative to address workplace incivility experienced by labor and delivery physicians. This cooperative will design and implement a web-based dashboard for tracking incivility, as well as develop and distribute an innovative multi-level curriculum aimed to provide physicians with the necessary tools to address incivility in the workplace. A diverse group of anesthesiologists, obstetricians, and a neuropsychologist will be the core of the Labor and Delivery Civility Cooperative.
