Intensive training for chiefs of staff, committee members, department chairs and other physicians to increase their leadership knowledge and skills
The goal of the program is to provide physicians with the skills they need to successfully lead their medical staffs, in a manner which empowers physicians to maintain control over the quality of care provided to patients. IMQ was able to offer this training program for the second consecutive year. The 2012 program had 89 paid attendees, which included 72 physicians and 17 non-physicians, as well as 13 physician faculty members and 12 other faculty members who attended portions of the program. Participants stated that the conference exceeded their expectations and provided them with valuable knowledge and skills. Additionally, participants suggested that the conferenced be offered regularly in California and nationally.
Both the 2011 and 2012 programs successfully combined IMQ’s expertise in medical staff matters with PACE’s expertise in communication and assessment. They used video vignettes, role playing, didactic presentations and group discussions to help participants develop skills. IMQ used feedback from the 2011 program evaluations, as well an assessment of evolving leadership concerns impacting medical staffs, to redesign the curriculum for 2012.
