Stepping Up To Leadership
The Institute for Medical Quality will offer a two day, Stepping Up To Leadership Program which will bring together medical staff leaders, including Chiefs of Staff, committee members, and department chairs, to participate in skill-building interactive sessions led by established experts in their fields. This program covers topics that are most relevant to medical staff leaders as determined by our planning committee, survey of medical staff leaders, evaluation forms and input from CAMSS and OMSS. We will conduct research through a literature search and one on one discussions with medical staff professionals to provide the planning committee with more feedback in considering topics. The program will incorporate didactic presentations along with interactive sessions to help physicians learn skills they can implement in their own hospitals.
We will continue to offer the popular core topics of communication skills and handling disruptive or impaired professionals. We also will develop new videos, case studies and scenarios to address evolving issues. The planning committee will define the areas of greatest need to develop an agenda, identify speakers, and determine where the new videos are most needed. Staff will work with the planning committee and PACE to draft the scripts. During the role playing sessions, we plan to create smaller breakout groups to make the role playing more beneficial to the participants. To do this, we will train additional facilitators for these interactive sessions. We will tape the sessions and use those tapes to create learning modules which will be available on-line 24/7 with CME credit. As an accredited provider of CME, IMQ has the expertise to do this.
