Integration of Drivers of Health into Texas Children’s Pediatrics Practices
Texas Children’s Hospital, a nonprofit founded in 1954 and consistently ranked among the top children’s hospitals nationally, is dedicated to providing exceptional care to all children regardless of their families’ financial status. Serving over 5 million patients annually, the hospital excels in patient care, education, and research.
This project is led by leaders at Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) and Texas Children’s Pediatrics (TCP), a network of 66 pediatric practices and over 300 physicians across Houston, College Station, and Austin. All pediatric patients will continue being screened for food insecurity at annual wellness exams with positive screens triggering referrals to regional food banks where community navigators help families complete SNAP applications and access food pantries. The initiative will also pilot new programs, including a “Food Rx” program that provides fresh produce and a home food delivery service for families with transportation barriers.
