LifeBridge Physician Wellness Program Replication

In 1972, the Travis County Medical Society created the Central Texas Medical Foundation to develop and operate community based graduate medical education programs. After 26 years of operations, the residency programs were sold in 1998 and the proceeds became the corpus of the Travis County Medical Society Foundation (TCMSF), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit of which the Travis County Medical Society is the sole member. He TCMSF sponsors physician-led programs, such as: Project Access, which provides coordinated health care for low-income, uninsured citizens of Travis County; free athletic physicals for students in the Austin Independent School District; the Physician Wellness Program; and scholarships for medical students. The TCMSF Lecture Series is an educational program that brings in well-known speakers on relevant topics of interest to TCMS members.

TCMSF aims to keep the physician wellness program website up-to-date with the contact information of medical societies that have wellness programs. This would allow for the ability to reach out to more societies to learn of their current status or of any interest they may have in starting a program and offer assistance. The organization aspires to learn more about the models of physician wellness programs around the country and networking with active players with aid in that effort. TCMS will use this information to help new programs decide which model works best for them. The toolkit and website will then be updated to reflect those models and to provide a convenient means of access.
