CHAT-HPV: Conversational Health AI Tool for HPV

The University of Southern California (USC) is a leading private research university in Los Angeles with 17 schools. USC’s Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) aims to improve health, prevent disease, and advance biomedical research. Located in East Los Angeles, KSOM serves a large Latino community and specializes in cancer, stem cell medicine, orthopedics, and sports medicine. It is home to over 1,200 faculty, 1,800 staff, and 1,200 students, with nationally recognized research programs in cancer, genomics, preventive medicine, and more.

This project aims to reduce provider time spent on counseling and improve patient and provider satisfaction through an AI-driven chatbot, while addressing the time constraints that hinder HPV vaccination discussions. A secondary goal is to increase HPV vaccination uptake in a high-risk, underserved cancer population, where current vaccination rates are below target and disparities exist based on socioeconomic and racial factors.
