West Virginia Medical Foundation

Initiative to increase quality of patient care through an educational and advisory center

Executive Summary:  The West Virginia Medical Foundation sought to establish a Center for Electronic Best Practices to help physicians adopt and adapt to electronic health record technology (EHR). The project was launched with a needs assessment of the state physicians. Data collected in the assessment was used to inform the project and develop the resources and materials for the Center. Funding from The Physicians Foundation supported the West Virginia Foundation in enhancing the adoption and networking of EHR technology in West Virginia. Programs and tools offered through the Center have informed physicians and patients about the mechanisms and benefits of electronic health records.
