Over the past year, Dr. Andrew Schwarz has been engaged in studying physicians and EMR adoption in the state of Louisiana. Louisiana State Medical Society Educational and Research Foundation will now take this study nationally to examine the following: factors that discriminate between non-adopters and adopters; presence of specific regional drivers (or inhibitors) of EMR adoption; and patterns of adopters that lead to meaningful use. The information gleaned from this study will identify specific issues inhibiting adoption, which could then be used to develop targeted, educational EMR tools for physicians to better understand and incorporate appropriate EMR technology and software into their practices.
