A Crisis for Essential Workers in COVID-19

When I saw that, you know, employers did not protect workers who were working in packing plants, and the government did not step in to ensure that work places were healthy, even as they were declaring that meat packing workers were essential workers, all of these things to me seemed like, wow these are, these are people who have been marginalized for a very, very long time and with the coronavirus crisis that we have, they are marginalized even more.

What we’re also seeing is, people who, once they have the illness, are really in a pinch because then they don’t have enough money to pay their rent or pay for food because they have to take off for work.

And so, there is a tremendous crisis for many families who are living on the edge like that and it’s been a real, real hardship.
