Reimagining Social Medicine: Transformative Education and Social Action for Health Equality

The goal of the Social Medicine Consortium’s first annual Social Medicine Symposium on April 30th is to serve as a springboard that helps develop an educational framework and curricula for social medicine. Funding will help the work group coordinate four strategic work groups that meet six times per year in-person and through teleconferences. These work groups are charged with outlining a curricula for teaching students and physician leaders, refining an implementation strategy, and advocating for broad curricular reform. The first phase of planning will culminate in a consensus statement in a peer-reviewed journal that outlines core competencies of social medicine and set of strategy recommendations to increase physician education in social medicine.
