Certificate Program in Physician Leadership

The Center for a Healthy Maryland (the Center) will seek to improve and expand the Certificate Program in Physician Leadership (the Program), established through the Maryland Physician Leadership Institute in its prior Physicians Foundation grant, over a two year period (2017-2019). The hybrid format (online and face to face) developed for the prior grant and facilitated by ES4P will again be used, offering two cohorts per year. As an initial activity, an eighteen month and a twelve month evaluation survey will be conducted with the graduates of the 2016 Cohorts 1 and 2 to inform improvements to the Program which will be incorporated prior to implementation. The results of these long term evaluations will be presented by an outside consultant to a focus group of graduates. At this meeting physicians will be invited to share personal accomplishments attributed to their participation in the Program and offer suggestions for improvement and expansion. This open forum will also give physicians the opportunity to express ideas for topics for an advanced leadership course (Leadership 102).

The 4th Program course, Leading in the Era of Healthcare Reform, will be updated and recorded by Gene Ransom, MedChi CEO. After these revisions, and after the CME accreditation process, two cohorts of the Certificate Program will be offered in the remainder of the first grant year, one in winter and one in spring of 2018. Leadership 102, focusing on a particular leadership topic or topics will be developed, accredited and promoted at the end of the first grant year, to run concurrently with two additional cohorts of the introductory courses throughout the second grant year. Outreach to resident physicians will be made through MedChi’s Resident Section. After implementing the two cohorts in the first grant year, evaluation will be conducted for both process and outcomes and shared with the course instructors so that improvements will be incorporated into the second year grant Program cohorts in 2018-2019. The Leadership 102 course(s) will be evaluated as they are rolled out throughout the second grant year.
