Stepping up to Leadership Expansion
The purpose of the grant is to expand the Stepping Up to Leadership program to three regions. Institute for Medical Quality (IMQ) provided the Stepping Up to Leadership program in 2011 and 2012 and will expand the program. The program is offered to medical staff leaders and gives them tools and knowledge to succeed in these roles. The project will provide two-and-one-half days of training for chiefs of staff, committee members, department chairs and other physicians to increase their leadership knowledge and skills. Program content will focus on effective communication, running a medical staff meeting, legal issues, fulfilling the role of a leader, promoting a culture of safety and handling the disruptive professional, among other topics. IMQ proposes to offer the program in three regions including West, Central, and Eastern. IMQ is working with faculty from Texas A&M and George Washington University to develop the program in Texas and Washington, DC. All three programs will be marketed nationally and sessions will be recorded to offer online Continuing Medical Education credits.
