LSMS Physician Leadership Academy
The LSMS will implement the Physician Leadership Academy for Physicians under 50 years of age to provide these physicians with experience and training in the core aptitudes to excel in leadership positions both within and outside the practice of medicine, focusing on organized medicine and the business of medicine. Graduating physicians will develop leadership, communication, and business skills that can be implemented into their personal and professional lives to better represent the needs of their patients and other healthcare providers. Physicians will be prepared and groomed for future leadership positions within the LSMS as well as potential employers. The program will be modeled after a program tested and utilized in the State of Florida using healthcare experts with a background in national and statewide trends. The LSMS ERF plans to contract with Louisiana State University’s Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute in the E. J. Ourso College of Business to provide the curriculum and instructional experts. The legal and business professionals from around the region will cover important topics, such as the revenue cycle, contract negotiations, data analysis, payment models, benchmarks and employee management to ensure our students understand the business of medicine. The faculty will connect the information to real-world issues, promoting strategic thinking, leadership and sound decision making to create innovative solutions to business challenges. The program will consist of a hybrid of virtual and in-person sessions. In-person sessions will be held in central parts of the State to enable state-wide access.
