South Dakota Center for Physician Resources – Physician Leadership
The purpose of the grant is to develop the leadership component of the South Dakota Center for Physician Resources. The South Dakota State Medical Association (SDSMA) Foundation was recently awarded a Medical Practice grant to establish the SD Center for Physician Resources to address the needs of physicians in multiple practice settings and offer solutions to help them maintain success. In addition to Personal and Professional needs (funded by the previous grant) the Center will provide leadership and advocacy training on strategic planning, communication, negotiations, decision-making, team building, conflict resolution, advocacy, and media relations. A work group will be convened to develop programming for the practicing physician leader and the administrative physician leader. The first year of the grant will be the planning phase, which will include hiring an educational program director and reviewing existing programs. SDSMAF will then vet educational institutions to develop and offer leadership training. The first cohort is planned to begin in September 2014.
