Initiative to improve operational efficiency of solo and small group practices

Executive Summary: The California Medical Association Foundation (CMAF) carried out a project to identify best practices and operational efficiencies for small practices. Funding from The Physicians Foundation supported CMAF in piloting a model that seeks to improve clinical and operational efficiency and patient care and satisfaction. CMAF applied supply chain management theory, insights from practicing physicians and their staff, and knowledge and skill from organizational design experts to eliminate administrative burdens and enhance the quality of patient care. Insights gained from the project were published as a best practices toolkit available on the California Medical Association website. After completion of the grant, CMA remained committed to supporting this educational offering as an ongoing resource for physicians.
