Joy of Medicine

The Joy of Medicine program is a multilateral approach to physician well-being through building personal resilience, connecting with colleagues, and collaborating with physician leaders of medical groups and well-being committees to foster a culture of wellness in the local physician community.

To address personal resilience and create a shift in culture, the Joy of Medicine program will organize and promote Resiliency Consultations, Finding Meaning in Medicine Groups and educational opportunities for practicing physicians, residents and medical students. Resiliency Consultations are anonymous counseling sessions for physicians and medical students. Finding Meaning in Medicine groups are small groups of physicians that will gather in various locations for weekly group meetings. Education provided to the physicians will be in the form of lunchtime wellness seminars/webinars, CME events and an annual “Joy of Medicine Summit.”

Connecting with colleagues is another method that the Joy of Medicine will utilize to increase physician wellness. SSVMS will achieve this through the following projects: social gatherings, interest groups and “Gratitude Pop Ups.” Finally, to foster a culture of wellness within the local physician community, SSVMS will collaborate with physician leaders through convening a Joy of Medicine Advisory Committee to share wellness best practices between each of the physician medical groups as well as physicians in private practice, and to assist SSVMS in the creation and sustainability of the program.
