Susan M. Bankston
Dr. Susan M. Bankston is a living example of how to balance a professional career with a personal life and community involvement. A native of Baton Rouge, Dr. Bankston earned her B.S. in Zoology from LSU in 1984 and her M.D. from the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport in 1988. She completed her Pediatrics internship at Earl K. Long Hospital in Baton Rouge and her residency at the LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport.
In 1996, the year she started at The Baton Rouge Clinic, she joined the American Board of Pediatrics and became a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics in 1998. Licensed in the state of Louisiana, she holds certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
Her professional accomplishments include serving as President of the Capital Area Medical Society and the Louisiana State Medical Society. She was also a member of The Baton Rouge Clinic’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee and served on the Board of Governors of the Louisiana State Medical Society.
Appointed by two Louisiana Governors, Dr. Bankston served three terms on the Louisiana Emergency Certification Commission. Civically, she is a sustaining member of the Baton Rouge Junior League and a member of the Florida Boulevard Baptist Church. Dr. Bankston also hosts a monthly health information and wellness program on WAFB TV 9 in Baton Rouge, “House Calls with Dr. B.”
Dr. Bankston has participated in seven Medical Missions to Central America, demonstrating her commitment to global health.
In addition to her professional achievements, Dr. Bankston enjoys LSU football, ballroom dancing, traveling, reading, scrapbooking, and horseback riding.
