Our grants support nonprofits, universities, hospital systems and medical society foundations to strengthen the physician-patient relationship, support medical practices’ sustainability and help physicians be leaders in our ever-changing health care system. Since 2005, we have awarded nearly $49 million grants to leading health care organizations.

Northwestern Memorial Healthcare

Grant Size $100,000

Northwestern Memorial HealthCare (NMHC), operating as Northwestern Medicine, is a not for-profit integrated academic health system based in the Chicago metropolitan area. Its history traces back to 1865 with the founding of Deaconess Hospital, eventually consolidating into Northwestern Memorial Hospital in 1972 through a long-standing affiliation with Northwestern University. Since the formal establishment of the Northwestern Medicine brand in 2009, the system has grown to include 11 hospitals and more than 200 locations, serving over 1.5 million patients annually.

The Univ. of Colorado School of Medicine (CU SOM) Office for Well Being advances a healthy, equitable practice environment by measuring workforce well-being, identifying system drivers of distress, and partnering with departments and affiliates to turn data into action. Their portfolio includes institution wide well-being measurement, leadership development, and pragmatic research that informs system level solutions to reduce burnout and strengthen professional fulfillment.

American College of Cardiology Foundation

Grant Size $100,000

The American College of Cardiology Foundation’s (ACCF) CardioSafe initiative is a two-year, five-part program designed to research and mitigate patient-initiated mistreatment and discrimination within the cardiology workforce. By combining national data collection with the development of educational modules and a learning collaborative, the project seeks to equip clinicians with de-escalation skills and leadership tools to foster safer care environments. Ultimately, CardioSafe aims to create a scalable model that other medical societies can adopt to improve clinician well-being and patient safety across the broader healthcare system.

Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

Grant Size $98,000

The Icahn School of Medicine’s mission aims to advance science, medicine, and health care delivery for the benefit of humanity through a culture of excellence, innovation, and belonging. Guidance on civility and preventing incivility at their institution is currently lacking within the clinic setting, with most interventions being focused on asynchronous online learning modules that lack engagement and real-world connection. This project aims to provide tools to achieve “a culture of excellence” and “belonging” to their institution.

Federation of State Physician Health Programs’s (FSPHP) mission is to support PHPs in improving the health of medical professionals, thereby contributing to quality patient care. Its vision is a society of highly effective PHPs advancing the health of the medical community and the patients they serve. Established to unify PHPs across the U.S., FSPHP empowers PHPs through best practices, accountability, and advocacy, promoting them as confidential, therapeutic alternatives to discipline. It fosters collaboration among PHPs, regulatory boards, and the medical community while advancing education, research, and leadership development

UMass Chan Medical School, the state’s only public medical school, excels in medical education, research, and healthcare innovation. The UMass Center for Clinical and Translational Science supports clinical research, integrating data with electronic medical records. Its Program in Digital Medicine develops and implements health technologies in collaboration with UMass Memorial Health. UMass Chan also houses the Health AI Assurance Laboratory, leading efforts to ensure AI in healthcare is safe and effective, making it the first initiative of its kind in Massachusetts.

The University of Southern California (USC) is a leading private research university in Los Angeles with 17 schools. USC’s Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) aims to improve health, prevent disease, and advance biomedical research. Located in East Los Angeles, KSOM serves a large Latino community and specializes in cancer, stem cell medicine, orthopedics, and sports medicine. It is home to over 1,200 faculty, 1,800 staff, and 1,200 students, with nationally recognized research programs in cancer, genomics, preventive medicine, and more.
